Server Information

Khalidine is a Neverwinter Nights 2 persistent world. It is a deep, rich place made up of multiple cultures, personalities, unique adventures, and plenty of role-playing opportunity. Game play features fairness, exclusive spells, custom-tailored character development opportunities, and active DMs. This world is a hallmark for those who thrive in role-playing environments. If you are serious about RP, yet believe that the adventure shouldn't stop just because the role-playing has started, we invite you to join us as welcome guests.

Below is some more information about the server. In this section of the web site, you'll find detailed information about the rules, gameplay, and other important aspects of Khalidine.

Roleplaying Environment

This is a roleplaying server. You're expected to be in-character when you're not in one of the two designated OOC locations or in presence of a visible DM. However, if you do make occasional OOC comments, you won't get kicked from the server or abused by players or staff. As long as the majority of your conversion takes place in-character, and OOC comments are prefixed with "//" or "OOC", you have nothing to worry about.

Those who are more interested in playing the server as a hack-n-slash campaign are also allowed to do so, but they will not be given the same opportunities to affect the world, its inhabitants, or the outcome of ongoing stories.

Mature Players Only

We have an 18+ age limit; but more importantly, we have a 'mature attitude' requirement. All of our players are expected to behave in a mature fashion. Exceptions may be granted to the age limit if the player demonstrates him or herself to be emotionally mature. Similarly, disruptive or immature players who are over 18 will be removed. Note that being mature doesn't preclude a certain amount of silliness from time to time...

Emphasis on Fun, Not Rules

We are all here to have fun, not to be bogged down by countless rules. The advantage of requiring players to be 18 and older is that emphasis can be placed on enjoying the game, and not on enforcing the rules. Unlike some roleplaying servers, we have fewer than a dozen rules for players. They are very rarely added to or altered.

Characters Have Influence

A lot of servers promise this, but we deliver it. With several planned large-scale campaigns and stories, the active roleplayer has many opportunities to influence or directly change the course of history as it occurs. There is a place for all personalities -- from the scheming behind the scenes manipulator to the brash barbarian, and everything in between.

Player vs Player Combat

This server allows full PvP, though it do not encourage it. All PvP interactions must be roleplayed and all participants must be willing; griefing or non-consentual PvP will quickly get a player banned.

Real Live DMs

While we do aim to have static content available -- quests and spawns -- they are no substitute for DM interaction. Our primary focus will be in creating a living, breathing world that grows on the strength of its player base and its DMs

Our DMs have rules of their own to follow. DMs caught cheating (gifting themselves or others XP, items, or gold) will be promptly relieved of their positions.

While our DMs do sometimes log in as players, they are expressly forbidden from playing the story that they (or other DMs) are telling. You won't ever find a DM-run PC that's participating in a quest or plot line as a significant character. That privilege is reserved for the players.

High Standard of Quality

All aspects of the game world are subject to scrutiny. You will not find the grammar and spelling errors that plague many other worlds. All of our maps are closely scrutinized for consistency, appearance, and playability. All of our scripted systems are developed and/or reviewed by experienced software development professionals.

Character Development Quests

One of the tools used here to advance character development and realize your PC's goals is the Character Development Quest, or CDQ. In addition to the normal day-to-day interactions -- group quests, incidental events, etc. -- CDQs are custom-tailored to your character or a very small group of characters. These are based on your PC's history and his or her actions in-game. They are designed to help your character grow, and perhaps for you to learn more about them along the way.

A Unique World

We pride ourselves in providing a gaming experience that our players can't get anywhere else. Our world is 100% original, from its pantheon to its current events, and everything that's happened in between. In spite of that, there is no need to learn dozens of minor changes to the core rules before you can jump in and become a part of the world.

Integrated Bug, Grievance, and Feedback System

Tools are provided in-game to log bugs exactly when and where they occur. This often lets the development team jump directly to the location of the reported problem, which is invaluable in correcting many types of issues. This system lets you privately lodge grievances against other players on the server, to be researched by the DM staff. Spurious complaints against other players will not be tolerated. Finally, this system also allows you to submit requests and suggestions for the server itself -- anonymously if you so choose.

Influence is all in-character:

We don't care which DMs or players you know or whom you have on your Buddy list. Your influence in-game is based on three things in order of importance:

  1. The things your character says and does.
  2. How effectively your character's personality and abilities are role-played.
  3. The extent to which you play hack-n-slash style to the exclusion of all of ther forms of RP.

This is Not a Democracy

The server "is what it is". It is not run by democracy rule. While we solicit and respond to feedback whenever possible, final decisions lie with the staff. Changes and decisions will not be made at the whim of the loudest minority -- instead, any changes will be made with the overall best interests of the server in mind.
