Khalidine requires that in order to advance a character beyond third level, a character background must be submitted and approved. A web-based form for doing this will be provided. Though character backgrounds can be widely varied, each PC will be starting with the same basics -- some coin, the things they carry, and their wits (or lack thereof).
- A character submission should not be made until you have created a character and spent some time playing that character to ensure that you wish to keep it. Character submissions with less than five hours in-game time will generally not be reviewed.
- PCs cannot have nobility in their history. This includes those who have rejected their families and/or Houses. However, nobility can be earned over time through RP, can be included as a part of your character's long-term goals. In addition, it may be discovered in the future that a PC does have hidden noble lineage.
- PCs are welcome to come from a wealthy background, if upon starting out as PCs they they are in the same or worse condition financially than someone who did not. For example, a once-wealthy merchant died, leaving his son fleeing town with creditors nipping at his heels.
- Special abilities, items, or other 'extras' will not be given to any character as a result of their background. A good rule of thumb is that if it can be easily RPd and does not give advantage over other PCs, it will probably be okay.
- Generally speaking, intent to take multiple classes and/or Prestige classes must be included in your initial character submission.
- If your PC is to speak more languages than those given by his or her race, then you must include an explanation for where s/he learned those languages.
