Khalidine is a Neverwinter Nights 2 role-playing persistent world, scheduled for beta release in February of 2008. Khalidine has a unique pantheon, history, and lore. Here are some of our other features: The Game World - Khalidine is a mature RP and action server. We provide a relaxed environment where RP is required, but we also recognize that good RP can take many forms - and it isn't all based on talking. Our focus on a mature audience allows us to keep the number of rules down to a minimum.
- A rich, detailed history that has its origins in a pencil and paper campaign.
- We are a full PvP server. However all PvP must be role-played, and before any PvP may occur, all players involved must agree explicitly OOC. Griefing is a bannable offense.
- Your influence in-game is not drawn from your level, but rather from your reputation with the myriad factions within the world. This means that just because your character spends all of his time crawling dungeons and trying to gain XP does not mean that he will automatically be respected or influential in dealing with other PCs and NPCs.
- Personalized character development quests, tailored for your PC's history and future plans.
- We feature slow- to moderate-paced level advancement with time-based "grind" XP caps. This means that the longer you are logged in, the more XP you are able to get from killing and crafting; but regardless of time online the total amount of XP you can earn from such activities is limited. When combined with our reputation-based influence, this allows people who have the opportunity to spend a lot of time online to receive benefits from doing so, without actively penalizing the people who do not.
- Our death system is unique to Khalidine, and is structured so that PCs of fourth level and higher get penalized for death, but do not lose levels or money from it. To learn more, take a look at the death system article.
- A tightly integrated speech command and language system gives a wide range of additional gameplay options to players and DMs.
Community - The Khalidine community has existed since late 2003, first under NWN1 as "Dragon Well/Athanasia" then renamed to Khalidine for our NWN2 debut.
- Virtually all of our internal scripted systems will be contributed back to the NWN2 community, in the form of a standalone "persistent world" package. Naturally, people will be free to use as-is, or to incorporate select elements into their own world.
- Our team members are encouraged to work on projects outside of Khalidine, to better build the NWN2 community.
- We are beginning to work with several other PWs to help them in implementing their own systems.
The DMs
- Khalidine has an active DM population whose focus is bringing life to the server through interactions with your PCs. To maintain this, we are constantly on the lookout for qualified new and experienced DMs from among and outside our player base.
- Though we are an English language server based on the East Coast of the United States, we have DMs and staff members from countries all over the world, allowing us to provide an interactive experience even for those players not in the same time zone as the server itself.
- Open publication of our DM rules ensures that both players and DMs know what is expected of DMs here.
- You can get a taste for the server immediately (after Beta begins), without needing to register or wait through a tedious application process to complete before you even have a chance to decide if you like the server. While we do require character background approvals, any PC you create can advance up through level 3 before the approval is needed. Character histories and backgrounds are privately held between you and the DMs, so that other players do not have opportunity to learn more about your PC than you wish them to.
- Tons of additional features including a broad range of custom skills (nearly all that are available under D&D rules), our currency and merchant system, automatic RP xp awards, and many more.
Planned Features Below are a few of the features that will be introduced during the beta itself, many of which are already under development: - Custom crafting system, based on 3.5 edition rules. This crafting system will allow you to earn a living crafting; but it will not allow you to become a one-person factory for powerful items.
- Character background, stats, and in-game history integrated into the web site.
- Character journals integrated into the game itself as well as the web site; you wll be able to publish your PC's journal entries from in-game. Or if you prefer, you can keep them private, available only to you and the DMs.
- Persistent room rentals and furniture placement.
- Purchase order system which allows PCs to place orders for common crafting resources, allowing other PCs to earn money and XP in filling them.
