Heredity

Humans were created by the gods and spread quickly throughout the world. Some say that they are the most basic race, as humans are the only race able to breed with others: orcs, elves, and drow specifically. Regardless, none can argue that humans are one of the most successful races; they make up the majority of the sentient beings on Rykil.

Commonalities

Humans' most common feature is their diversity; very few trends hold uniformly. However, generally, they are one of the most ambitious and impatient of the races. Despite their shorter lifespans than most others, humans often accomplish as much if not more than individuals of other races. They are, however, almost as egotistical as the elves and have some of the most violent xenophobes among them. Oxymoronically, they're also one of the most tolerant of other races, possessing myriad interracial trade relations and having the highest number of other races seeking permanent residence within their lands. Perhaps humanity's only true constant is the inconsistency between one human and another.

In Society

Humans fill every conceivable societal role. They are slaves and rulers, scholars and soldiers, merchants and beggars. Some humans live in caste systems, and others are able to gain and lose status throughout their lives. The majority, however, exist as free but poor individuals, many of which do not even own land or have any power in the political structures of their kingdoms.

Player Expectations

Playing a human offers many benefits: your character can blend in well, and they will receive the most unprejudiced treatment of any race. It may be slightly harder to call attention to oneself; but with enough effort, a human will gain notice from those around them; and a human will have a slightly easier time gaining the favor of most institutions than a nonhuman.
