The Kingdom of Naea is a strong nation of human cities, situated in the far north east of Rykil. People here are a touch moody and tend toward being quiet and softer spoken. It is heavily defended and quite civilized.

History

The history of Naea can be traced back to old Garèan Empire, around 1300 DA. It wasn’t until around 1100DA, however, when the Empire was split in two by the battle of Eternal Night, that the Kingdom of Naea began to take form.

After the battle, the north became very chaotic and wild, as multiple kingdoms battled for supremacy. The main three human kingdoms were Rayor, Vhalastar, and Elucia. There was a powerful Elven kingdom in the Whispering Woods, as well as the Gnomish and Halfling encampments, and the scattered bands of barbarians under the charismatic leadership of a warlord called Jaras.

For a long period of time, the various kingdoms battled one another. Vhalastar destroyed much of Rayor during this time. All that remains of that once powerful kingdom is the area of Rayor that used to house the royal palace, now used for an army command centre. Elucia was more successful in resisting.

Since the War of the Age, Naea has been quietly gaining in military and economic strength. It is presently one of the most powerful and wealthiest nations in Rykil.

Cities

The Kingdom of Naea has three large cities: Nurethen, Rashesh, and the capital city of Casinus. It has 4 smaller towns and a number of villages, farms, and fortresses.

Cities within Naea vary widely in design based on who owns them, but typically share a number of features in common – the use of multiple walls and gates for defence and the abundance of trained soldiers garrisoned in the city itself.

Population

The last census indicated a total population of just over 5 million people. Over 95% of these are human.

Culture

Naea is known for its centers of learning and study; there are many such located in each of the major cities. In the last millennium, several noted artists, sculptors, composers, and bards from Naea have produced great works. Some of the most well-known include the Hand of Aresir by the sculptor Larren Vindara, the oft-performed Songs of Morning originally penned by Sharessa Dina, and Asavo Emerging by the painter Torinen.

Economy

The Naean economy robust and widely varied.

Imports and Exports

Naea has vast timberlands and a staggering amount of farmland, as well as good mines and fish, and a skilled tradeskill industry. Naean weapon smiths are some of the best on the planet, and the Kingdom of Naea supplies weapons for both Dinestaven and Alembar. Their grain, rice, and wood are prized everywhere.

The Kingdom of Naea also ships out a great number of medicines and herbal concoctions, as well as some rare herbs from the Warie Forest. Import-wise, the Kingdom of Naea imports huge quantities of spices and stone from the Tabanasta area. Naea also exports glass (from sand) and mining tools.

Dinestaven supplies the Kingdom of Naea with silver, gems, and coco, a common component of the Naean diet and a particular favourite of the Naean nobility.

The Kingdom of Alembar sends across iron and carbon, as well as meat from its cattle and wool, cotton, and silk.

Corporations

Naea has a unique model of business which allows the development of so-called corporations -- groups of merchants in a related industry who operate under a single leader. The most powerful and influential of these is the Anthir Corporation.

Outlook

The people Naea have various points of view regarding their world. Most of them are fearful of war, true, but then again, most also understand that if a war with Eulica is inevitable, it must be borne to its conclusion if there is any hope for peace. Intrigue sears the Kingdom of Naea from end to end, and many nobles, merchants, and generals plot more for their own gain than the prosperity of the Naea.

Government

The Naean government is comprised of a strong civil service system where each city is the center of a district of villages. Usually it will be a Baron or Count who runs villages, and the nobles meet with the local city’s Duke to elect a Councilor. The Councilor meet in a council in Casinus to discuss the needs of the Naean nation. They are also in charge of various departments of the government and the military. These councilors elect a High Councilor who answers to the Royal Family and to the King himself.

Relations

Allies

The Kingdom of Naea has trade policies and a non-aggression pact with the Kingdoms of Alembar and Dinestaven.

Enemies

The Kingdom of Eulica is their most obvious enemy. However, the Kingdom of Naea is also hostile to the Raeoran barbarian tribes.

While it has limited trade with Tabanasta, it has little contact aside from formal diplomatic messages The longer Tabanasta supplies the Kingdom of Eulica, the more likely that they will be added officially Naea’s list of enemies.
